Did you know...Opening Tight Lids

This tip was from the January/February 2005 issue of Cook's Illustrated magazine

Did you ever find that sometimes jar lids are impossible to open? Tired of banging them against the counter? Running them under cold water? A sure fire way to open those stubborn jars is with a church key opener.

1. Fit the tip of the church key under the edge of the lid and gently lift the key to break the seal.

2. The lid should now be easy to unscrew.

  1. You can do the same thing with the edge of a spoon, or by swatting the bottom of the container until you hear a slight pop. All of these methods remove the vacuum, so that the container will open. :-) Linda
